Installation Guide

Note: Voicepad Pro is currently pending Chrome Web Store approval. Follow the steps below to install it as a developer extension.

Step 1: Download the Extension

Download the latest version of Voicepad Pro:

Contact @jogarriot for access to the developer build.

Step 2: Extract the Files

  1. Locate the downloaded voicepad-pro.zip file
  2. Extract/unzip it to a folder you'll keep (e.g., ~/Extensions/voicepad-pro)
  3. Remember this location — you'll need it in the next step

Step 3: Enable Developer Mode

  1. Open Chrome and go to chrome://extensions
  2. Toggle "Developer mode" ON (top-right corner)

💡 Tip: You can also access this page via Menu → More Tools → Extensions

Step 4: Load the Extension

  1. Click "Load unpacked" button (appears after enabling Developer mode)
  2. Navigate to the folder where you extracted Voicepad Pro
  3. Select the folder containing manifest.json
  4. Click "Select Folder" (or "Open" on Mac)

Step 5: Pin the Extension

  1. Click the puzzle piece icon in Chrome's toolbar
  2. Find "Voicepad Pro" in the list
  3. Click the pin icon to keep it visible

Step 6: Configure a Provider

Before using Voicepad Pro, you need to set up at least one transcription provider:

Troubleshooting

"Manifest file is missing or unreadable"

Make sure you're selecting the correct folder that contains manifest.json directly, not a parent folder.

"Could not load extension"

The extension files may be corrupted. Re-download and extract the zip file again.

Extension doesn't appear

Check that Developer mode is enabled. If the extension shows an error, click "Details" to see more information.

Microphone not working

When you first start recording, Chrome will ask for microphone permission. Make sure to click "Allow".
